This past week, our 2025 Cohort had the incredible opportunity to engage in a discussion with MD Perkins, author of Dangerous Affirmations. This book is one of nine required readings in our program—an intentional selection process that wasn’t easy, given the wealth of resources available. But when it came to Dangerous Affirmations, there was never a doubt that it belonged on the list.
As a ministry, we believe “Gay-Affirming Ideologies” represent one of the greatest dangers to the Church today. While the broader LGBTQI+ agenda is well known, affirming ideologies are subtle, deceptive, and appealing—like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Imagine growing up in the Church, struggling with unwanted same-sex desires, wrestling between faith and feelings. It’s a difficult journey, one I, Bruno, have personally walked and one I have witnessed in the lives of thousands of men over the years. Then, suddenly, a new “possibility” emerges: that God is actually okay with you being both gay and Christian. Who wouldn’t want to embrace that? Who wouldn’t want to ease years of struggle? It seems like hope—but in reality, it is quite the opposite.
Here’s why:
Identifying as Something God Never Created: Nowhere in Scripture do we see that God created same-sex attraction. What we do see, from Genesis 1 and 2, is His clear design for male and female—where opposite-sex attraction serves higher purposes beyond sexual intimacy. To claim a gay identity is to claim something outside of God's original creation and intent.
You Become What You Believe: Scripture teaches that we are transformed by our beliefs (Romans 12:2). We become believers because we put our faith in Christ (Romans 10:9-10). If we begin to identify as a “Gay Christian,” we are adopting a false identity that competes with our identity in Christ. In my experience walking with thousands of men worldwide, those who embrace this identity ultimately become more gay than Christian.
A Lack of Belief in the Gospel’s Power to Transform: The Gospel is not just about salvation—it is about transformation (2 Corinthians 5:17). To embrace an identity rooted in the flesh rather than in Christ is to deny the power of the Gospel to redeem, restore, and renew.
This is why Dangerous Affirmations is such a vital book—it unveils the subtle distortions of truth that are quietly leading many believers away from God’s design. MD Perkins’ work is a critical resource in equipping the Church to recognize and resist these deceptive ideologies.
Our discussion with Perkins was a powerful time of insight and engagement. He shared this reflection on the conversation:
"Thank you so much for the warm reception tonight and for such a thoughtful crowd. Great questions, comments, and interactions."— MD Perkins
Cohort 2025 is committed to deep engagement, tough conversations, and sharpening one another in biblical truth. As we move forward, let’s stand firm, helping the Church discern and reject the lies that seek to redefine faith and sexuality.
